FROM THE PRESENT TO THE PAST
When I watched the video, an upsurge of nostalgia washed over me. It brought
back rich memories of the countryside where I spent several summers during the
mango season. The plush greenery of the countryside, the pastoral houses, and
the simplicity of countryside life all flooded back.
I recalled waking up to the tweeting of birds, the earthen fragrance after
the morning dew, and the view of children playing in the exposed fields. The
mango trees were laden with ripe, juicy fruits, their saccharine aroma filling
the air. Picking mangoes directly from the trees, feeling their warm,
sun-kissed skin, and biting into their luscious flesh was a pleasure incomparable.
Countryside life was a stark dissimilarity to the hustle and bustle of the
city. It was gentler, more associated with nature, and had a rhythm.
The days were filled with unpretentious pleasures – tending to the garden,
helping in the kitchen, and chatting with the neighbours. Evenings were
reserved for storytelling sessions under the starlit sky, with the occasional
sound of crickets providing a calming circumstantial score.
This video helped me perfectly recollect the essence of those golden days.
It’s an aide-mémoire of a time when life was simpler, and cheerfulness could be
found in the smallest things.
