Here is the solution!!!

Fasten your seatbelts as I ride you to the world of learning!

SUMMARY WRITING

When writing the summary, the following steps must have to be taken into account:

Step 1: SCAN!!!

Read the text and form an overview of what the text is about.

Step 2: Read the Task!!!

Read the task carefully and circle any keywords. Make a note of whether there is one focus strand or two.

Step 3: Skim!!!

Read the text, looking for relevant content points. List them in note form, using just the key phrases, not whole sentences.

Annotated text!!!

Step 4: Selection!!!

Look at your list of notes and see whether any of the points are similar and you could use therefore synthesising. Look for any repeated points and cross one of them out.

Decide whether the points are in the best order, or whether you should reorganise some of them to make your summary more coherent.

Step 5: Write the Summary!!!

Put the text aside and use your notes to write your summary in full sentences. Change things in your own words if it is easy to do so, but use words from the text if changing them would mean using more words, or would alter the meaning. The important thing is not to copy sentences.

IMPORTANT!!!

Ø  Using own words

Ø  Vocabulary

Ø  Complex Sentences

Ø  Punctuation (use of semi-colon)

Ø  Connectives

Ø  Summary Length

Step 6: Proofreading!!!

When you have finished writing, check your summary to ensure it reads fluently and has no errors.

Now, you are all set to practice and master the skill!!!
